Don’t Let Others Define You, Your Life, or Your Future | Psychology Today

I was impressed with this article when I ran across it. The idea is almost trite, but we don’t see to get it, and it bears repeating. And it has been repeated, almost word for word:

But this fleshes-out the sentiment in to actionable steps:

Figure out what is most important to you in life and then focus on working towards these goals. When a “should” starts playing through your head, or when someone else, no matter how well-meaning, tells you what they think you “should” be doing, remind yourself that no one but you is “the boss of you.”

Fighting the voices in your head telling you who you are? Those voices are you, but you can change them. Read the article and also listen to Avril Laverne. Sound teenage angst-ish, but it’s true at any age. This song was in my head as I read this, now it’s in yours.
