Vitalogy is literally the study of life (Also an album by Pearl Jam). In this case, we mean to find ways to have more lifespan and health-span. More better life.

A Movement is a loosely organized collective that seeks change in our society and ways of life somehow.

Vitalogy Movement is a Project of Jim Dey. He’s dedicated to helping people of some age live a vigorous and healthy life, and avoid chronic disease. Having worked in healthcare for a number of years, he came to find that, as it is currently practiced, it is woefully inadequate in addressing optimal health-span and lifespan, and avoid chronic disease. He is a Certified Personal Trainer and a Certified Health and Wellness Coach.

Jim has a day job as a Medical Assistant in Primary and Geriatric care, in one of the best health systems in the region. He has worked in Physical and Respiratory Rehabilitation, and in Addiction Recovery. Jim takes time to outreach and connect with patients because doctors don’t have time to. He sees hundreds of charts every week and the beginnings, if not full-blown outbreaks of, chronic diseases like hypertension and hyperlipidemia (cholesterol), obesity, diabetes, back and joint pain, anxiety and depression.

He believes that the current “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” system of healthcare is great if you’re already getting sick, but doesn’t work for learning how to live a long and vigorous life. Our health and wellness is in our own hands, but change is hard without someone to partner with. That’s why coaching and personal training are so important. That is what we are doing here.

The American Council on Exercise certifies that Jim is able “to develop and implement personalized exercise programs that improve fitness and overall well-being for individuals and small groups. They focus on helping people enhance their function, health, fitness, and performance, and modify risk factors for chronic disease to improve health.” Many Trainers focus on sports performance and appearance. Jim focuses on wellness and longevity, but performance and appearance will improve as a side-effect.

Even though everyone has some idea of what needs to be done to improve health and wellness, changing one’s own life can be difficult. That’s why Jim became a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach by passing the Medical Board of Examiners in July 2024. “Health & wellness coaches support clients in activating internal strengths and external resources to make sustainable and healthy lifestyle behavior changes.”

What? Why “DeathSlayer”?

The human body, honestly, wasn’t evolved to last much more than 40-50 years. Once you’re done reproducing, Nature is pretty much done with us. That’s when we start feeling the slow down.

But we will not go quietly into that good night! It is possible to resist Nature’s instance. We do it all the time. The truth is that we can hold off decline and death, even if we can’t kill death entirely. Yet.

This image is of an Indo-Tibetan meditation deity, named Yamanaka (Yah MAHN Tah Kah). Yama means death, and antaka means Ender. He is the wrathful aspect of enlightened wisdom, that clears every delusion standing in the way.

Why “Virus Feliz?”

Pronounced “vee-ROOS fell-EASE”

No surprise, viruses became a big topic in the last half decade or so. Jim had a kind of vision early one morning, that the wellness that he has achieved for himself could spread like a virus. A good virus. Also, he loves the line from the movie Inception (2010), “an idea is like a virus.”

It’s one thing to suspect that you might be better off changing your lifestyle to feel (and let’s be honest, look) better, and enjoy your life more. But change can be hard. How do we do it? That is where Coaching comes in. The call MUST come from inside the house. Behavior change is as much a science as medicine. Learn the difference between Training and Coaching.

Backed by Science

His own story: about age 40-50, Jim was really feeling it. Shorter of breath, pudgy in the middle and weaker all the time. About the same time, his father passed away. Concerned and curious, he became obsessively interested in medical science. As some point Jim became convinced that diet and exercise can cure almost anything, so he started working out and changing his eating patterns.

First he became certified as a Medical Assistant, then as a Personal Trainer, and now works as a Health and Wellness Coach, too.

This is about what Jim has learned and wants to share with others, especially GenXers and Boomers about that age. He has a lot of experience in mindfulness practices, and a bodysurfer, too. We guide people to learn how to get the right MEDS: Meditation, Exercise, Diet and Sleep. Everyone should feel great.
